Similar Developments to Cohousing

Coliving developments are have some similarity to cohousing but are not the same. They are in effect boarding houses with some services, or professionally managed sharehouses. They are ‘build to rent' developments where a management company provides services such as cleaning and common spaces. They do not have long term security of tenure or resident control. They are usually designed for short term occupancy.

Nightingale is a Melbourne based development company. They are responsible for some impressive and award winning apartment buildings in Melbourne but they do not as yet have the level of shared space that would make them cohousing projects.

Many of these could also be called cohousing developments with shared facilities and resident
involvement in design and management. They have generally been developed by people who aimed for a very environmentally sustainable development, and this leads them to shared facilities.
